Craigardan is a new nonprofit educational organization Founded: 12.2016 | opened: 6.2017
Historically, the Adirondack Mountains were a destination for artists, writers, and philosophers. Located at the nexus between innovation in agricultural practice, scholarly research and the arts, Craigardan seeks to provide an important gathering place for creative exploration by providing residencies, community classes, and workshops.
We envision an Adirondack region defined by its makers who are committed to the development of sustainable systems that integrate the needs of human communities with the integrity of the natural world.
To provide a living workshop at the intersection of fine craft and sustainable agriculture that encourages the human imagination to interpret the world with philosophical, ecological, and artistic perspective.
TOGETHER WE WILL
Preserve place and develop a center for community involvement and interaction that encourages diversity in all domains
Share knowledge by providing experiential learning opportunities in the arts and in sustainable agricultural practices by offering residencies, workshops, and community classes
Explore relationships between craft practice and small-scale innovative farming with a commitment to the use of pioneering technologies
Steward and nurture regional cultural identities by promoting sustainable land-use choices for the long-term and by supporting the growing arts and food initiatives in the North Country
