Why Support Craigardan

There is more than one way to support our work.

With a full residency season supporting the work of more than 70 artists and scholars, a year-round diversified community farm, a rich slate of educational programs, and an ever-growing campus of buildings on 320 acres — there is no shortage of ways to help our work grow and thrive.

Your gift makes an impact on many different levels from the personal experience of our artists-in-residence, to the ways in which Craigardan enriches the culture in the Adirondacks, and the importance of using the creative practice to create positive change and solve complex problems in our world.

Craigardan brings people together to foster creativity, community-building, and social good.

Our programs cultivate creative exchange and strengthen connections between people, place, and making.

Your gift supports local and visiting artists and scholars and makes positive change in the Adirondacks and beyond. Our many programs include creative residencies, public programs, and food access initiatives on our community farm.

Craigardan’s artist residencies bring diverse perspectives together, enabling participants to build skills, develop ideas, and help inform and grow a sense of place and purpose within a safe and supportive environment. In addition to visual and performing artists and writers, our residents include ceramic artists, farmers, activists, chefs, scholars, researchers, place-based artists, and other disciplines. We have supported more than 350 individuals working in over 25 different disciplines

We provide more than 130 innovative public programs. We offer an annual journal publication, classes, workshops, and events that actively foster creative exchange between visiting artists and the local Adirondack community. We aim to create educational experiences that encourage dialogue across the boundaries of media and thinking. And, we design intentional, place-based programs that are inclusive, responsive, and generative.

Craigardan’s campus is also a 320 acre educational Community Farm. In addition to providing incredible organic food to residents and free farm shares to local families in need, our fully diversified farm and working forest activates place beyond beauty and sets the stage for creative thinking. This setting reflects our region’s historic ties to agriculture, environmental conservation, and arts and culture. The farm is a medium through which we learn interwoven social, ecological, and financial frameworks for understanding creative process and changing systems.
