CERAMIC SCULPTURE with Madalena Marques

Tuesdays + Thursdays: September 8, 10, 15, 17 | 6 PM - 8:30 PM

NOTE this is a 2-week class, 2.5 hrs each session, plus two Saturday open studios

Join us in the clay studio for this very special short course with Portuguese artist and architect Madalena Marques. Madalena will guide participants through her personal creative process of making ceramic sculptures. We’ll learn clay modeling through an intuitive approach, and then finish the surfaces using terra sigillata. The work will then be fired in a reduction atmosphere.

Class fee includes materials, firings, instruction, and two optional open studio sessions on Saturday mornings. Advance registration is required.

Location: Meet in the parking lot of the farm store. Google Maps Link

Madalena Marques

Madalena Marques is a ceramic artist based in Sintra, Portugal. Her practice explores ceramics as a medium for creative expression, guided by intuition and sensitivity. Through clay, she engages in an intimate dialogue between body, emotion, and matter, approaching the act of making as both a physical and intuitive process.

The form and aesthetics of her work are strongly influenced by reflections on space—both lived and imagined—and by her attraction to natural beauty and organic shapes. She seeks the essence of ceramics by integrating transformative processes involving fire, as well as other techniques that evoke a sense of primitivism.
