For resident internships between May 1 and November 1

SEPTEMBER 1: The application period opens for resident internships. The application fee is waived. The application period remains open until positions are filled.

Accepted resident interns receive a link to the next steps, which includes onboarding information and access to the resident internship handbook.

MARCH 1: All courses are designed and coordinated with studio resident interns by March 1st.

Accepted applicants recieve a $2300 weekly fellowship in exhange for 30 hours of work a week. There is not cost to participate and no money exchanged.

The internship program requires a large time commitment and does not leave time for part-time jobs.  We strongly recommend financially planning ahead in order to take full advantage of this opportunity.  RIs are required to carry basic personal health insurance or other documentation showing healthcare support.

All applications are reviewed by a rotating selection committee with diverse expertise in a variety of fields and media. To be considered by the selection committee, a complete application must include:

Supporting Materials

• Your Resume or CV: We want to learn more about you! This can be a professional resume, arts resume, or a combo of the two (PDF only).

• A Cover Letter including: how you plan to use your resident internship, what you hope to contribute to the community, why are you specifically applying to Craigardan, and how a resident internship at Craigardan will benefit you. (PDF only)

• If you are applying for a fellowship, you may need to submit a class proposal, a statement of need, or other materials(PDF only). Please note additional requirements as listed under your fellowship HERE

• Examples of your work if you are applying for a Studio or Art + Farm Resident Internship:

5-10 images of recent work, and an image script that includes the title, medium, size, and date of each image (PDF only)

-or- 3 different writing samples, each 2000 words or less (PDF only)

-or- 2 or more sample menus (culinary artists only) (PDF only)

-or- examples of publications, exhibitions, or research materials (PDF only)

and/or- links to any other video, publication, etc. that best portrays your work (PDF file with link(s)

Before you begin, please ensure that all your supporting materials are readily available. Complete the application form and be prepared to upload your supporting materials. It's important to note that the form only accepts supporting material files in the specified formats such as PDF and JPG.

Next Steps

Upon submitting your application form, you can expect to receive a confirmation email. It's important to take a moment to review the information and instructions provided in the email. Please email program@craigardan.org if you do not receive your confirmation email. You may need to check your spam folder.

Schedule your Zoom call. The confirmation email will have a link to schedule an optional Zoom call with staff to gain a better understanding of your resident internship needs and answer any questions you may have. 

Award Notifications. All final notifications for resident internships are made via email to applicants no later than January 15. Accepted resident interns receive a link to the next steps which include onboarding information and access to the resident internship handbook.

Summer: we support internships of 3 months or longer.

All internships start on a Monday.

In the application form, applicants have the opportunity to note:

• which months they are available (May, June, July, August, September, and/or October)

• Ideal length of internship (3, 4 or 5 months, etc.)

• preferred timing or any unavailable dates. Please be specific.

We do our best to accommodate preferences. The selection committee awards residency internships and assigns dates based on a number of factors.

If your availability changes at any time after you submit your application, it is your responsibility to notify us by December 15th! This prevents receiving a residency internship during a time that you cannot attend.

Once an applicant has been accepted into the internship program, we require a $300 fully refundable deposit to confirm and secure a resident internship spot. This security deposit confirms a participant's commitment to the program for the dates agreed upon, as well as covers any damage to property, tools, or equipment during their long-term stay.

The deposit will be refunded at the end of the internship program. If an accepted applicant needs to cancel all or part of their internship for any reason after the dates have been accepted, a deposit refund may be issued if we are able to fill the vacant spot with another applicant. We do our best, but refunds are not guaranteed and are often not possible due to the last-minute nature of most cancellations.
