CRAIGARDAN | WORK EXCHANGE AGREEMENT

PLEASE READ THIS FORM CAREFULLY! After you have finished reading this agreement, please sign and click “Submit” at the bottom of this page.

Work Exchange(WE) residents are expected to work 10 or 15 hours per week on the farm, in the kitchen, farm store, and program in exchange for a residency fee reduction. A 10 hour WE covers an additional $200 of the residency fee. A 15 hour WE covers an additional $300 of the residency fee. WE is equivalent to $20 an hour

  • WE provides much-needed help on campus, connects residents with the larger community, teaches skills, and makes the residencies even more affordable. Our aim is that the WE will enhance your overall Craigardan experience – but please note, this is work nonetheless!

  • WE residents are asked to work in the Farm, Kitchen, Farm Store and Program. Please be aware that you will be asked to divide your time between these areas as needs arise. Here is an overview of possible WE tasks:

    • Farm - Feeding and watering livestock (chickens, sheep, pigs); garden chores - watering, weeding, pest control, and harvesting vegetables; trail clean up; pasture improvement; wool skirting (cleaning and prep for spinning); assisting our staff in various other ways (processing vegetables, assisting with farm programs, etc.) This is not a complete list of farm tasks and other tasks may be asked of you.

    • Kitchen -  Assisting with the planning, preparation, and serving of Monday Night Dinners; dishwashing; kitchen cleaning; kitchen restocking; vegetable prep and processing. This is not a complete list of kitchen tasks and other tasks may be asked of you.

    • Farm Store - Check out customers; stock shelves; accept deliveries; organize and clean the store and back stock areas; talk with customers about our programs; assist our staff with office administrative tasks. This is not a complete list of farm store tasks and other tasks may be asked of you.

    • Program - Cleaning cabins and studios in-between residencies; assisting with residency laundry; class and event set-up and take-down. This is not a complete list of program tasks and other tasks may be asked of you.

  • Staff determines the work schedule based on Craigardan’s need. WE residents receive their schedule on the day of arrival. The majority of WE hours will likely occur on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays. There may be hours assigned to you on other days of the week.

  • All WE residents are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing and footwear, which must be able to get wet and dirty. Items to bring include closed-toed boots or shoes, work pants and shorts, long and short sleeve work shirts, sun hat or ball cap, rain jacket and weather-appropriate clothing layers.

  • As a WE resident, you will be trained on all tasks during WE hours, and there is nothing to learn or prepare for in advance of arrival.

  • Craigardan is committed to ensuring that your workload remains within the parameters of the 10 or 15 hours that have been awarded to you. We ask that residents who are awarded WE fully commit to working the total hours agreed upon. If a resident cannot fulfill the total number of hours for any reason, they will need to pay the balance of that time towards their residency.

  • Craigardan has a dynamic, hard-working, and enthusiastic staff, and we hold our WE residents to the same standards as our full-time team. We value a strong work ethic and a positive attitude and have awarded WE because we feel you will contribute to Craigardan's work.
